In my studio: Celebrating wellness

I have really grown to love New Years. I used to find the ritual of staying up late and making resolutions that I probably wouldn't keep to be a bit underwhelming, but now I see it as a great way to look back and celebrate the blessings of the year, and renew my commitments to various practices.

With all that in mind, I got to spend much of New Years in my home studio working on collages. This mini-series is a celebration of the extra time we got to spend time together as a family and our hopes for the upcoming season! Hope you enjoy!

In my studio: Instagram catch up

It has been awhile since I've posted completed works here on my blog. After several months without a regular studio practice, I am again trying to establish a bit more of a routine in that area. With the weather being just SO COLD in Omaha, I am focusing more on painting so I don't have to go in and out of the house like I do with cyanotypes.

Instagram catch up

After a few weeks of my kiddos taking turns with being sick, I am happy to report that everyone is doing great. *happy sigh* A minor cough here and there to be sure but nothing like before!

While I was busy nursing the kids, my husband was occupied with diagnosing what was wrong with our washing machine (bad clutch if you want to know), and then fixing it. Between getting caught up with laundry and getting all my taxes done, I haven't been in my studio much, so I thought I would do a little "catch up" of what I've posted on Instagram but not my blog.

The three collages above were all made from various printmaking/mark making techniques on deli paper that were then adhered with gel medium (paint minus the pigment) onto sturdy watercolor paper. Each measures 6x8" which is sort of my "signature size" to work in for the moment.

Thank you for stopping by to see what I've been working on. Your continued interest in my work and process are so important! I'm always on the lookout to connect with other artists and fans of other artists so please leave a link to your blog or the site of someone's work you love!!

The highs and lows of being a #momboss

For the first time in about six months, I am starting to feel like I have gotten into a good routine of housework, homeschooling, and time in my studio.  I've even been able to do some of the not so fum work of making "Certificate of Authenticity" papers and thank you coupon codes for my next online art sale (sign up for my mailing list if you don't want to miss it).

This newfound sense of balance and order was, of course, immediately follow by a round of the stomach bug hitting two of my littles. If having three kids in three years has taught me anything it is that when the unexpected or urgent strikes, drop everything that you possible can and focus on what needs to be done that day. All those things that were dropped can and will be picked up again, and my blood pressure/stress levels will stay much lower than if I tried to keep up with my plan for the day.

Sure enough, by the end of the day everyone was feeling well enough to go to Grammy's house, and I was able to have a little time in my studio before my husband came home from work. It has been a long time since I've made a 6x8" collage so it was nice to get back to working in a format that feels so comfortable.
